July Update

NEW LIBRARY HOURS

Those of you who have been following the discussions of library funding that has enabled the Chico branch library to stay open seven days per week will know that both the Chico City Council and the Butte County Board of Supervisors have declined to provide the necessary $100,000 in supplemental funding. The Chico branch library will now be open 14 fewer hours each week, starting July 5. New hours have been posted on the home page of this website and at the library.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM CONTINUES

With the ongoing financial support of your CFOL, the library’s summer reading program for children, teens, and adults began on June 1. Prizes are being provided by CFOL. Sign up at the library, and also consider volunteering to assist with enrolling children in the summer program.

3D PRINTER NOW AVAILABLE TO TEENS

Thanks to funding by your CFOL, the library now has a 3D printer available for teens, ages 12 through 17, to use.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that your CFOL will spend up to $6000 per month for new library materials, including books, magazines, digital media, and more? Recent purchases have concentrated on increasing the amount of Spanish language materials. Did you know that your CFOL has authorized the library to purchase two Android tablets to be used as prizes for summer reading programs for teens and adults? Your CFOL board has also voted to purchase cooler, energy saving LED lights to be installed in the conference room.

Your CFOL has applied for a grant from the Chico Community Grant Program to improve the public computer area in the library.  The grant application was approved, so there will be new computers, and each computer station will be more private.  The city’s maximum donation is up to $10,000 per applicant, so your CFOL will make up the difference with funds raised during the Annie B’s drive in August and September.

PUZZLES

Do you know someone who likes to be challenged by multi-piece jigsaw puzzles?  Does that person like it even more when the finished puzzle depicts the wonders of your Chico library and the joys of reading?  And what about the added benefit of supporting your Chico Friends Of the Library?  Purchase of one of the colorful 500 piece jigsaw puzzles created from a limited edition poster by local artist Steve Ferchaud entitled “Love Your Library.”  It just might be the perfect birthday, holiday, or “just because” gift for the jigsaw puzzle solver in your life. And it can provide hours of cool indoor entertainment during the hot summer days ahead. Visit your Chico branch library to acquire one of these unique items.  They are available for a mere $10 donation each!
