January Update

BOOK SALES RESUME

After a hiatus for the December 2016 holiday season, CFOL weekly book sales have resumed, and to celebrate the return of this highly popular activity, all items will be discounted 50% during the weekend of January 6 and 7.  The members-only First Friday sale will be Friday, January 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  Sales to the general public will be held Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30 am.  All sales are held in the meeting room of the Chico branch library.

FREE REPLACEMENT LIBRARY CARDS AVAILABLE

For two months, from January 5 through March 5, lost or damaged library cards will be replaced without the usual replacement fee. Bring your photo ID to the Circulation Desk at your Chico branch to receive your new card.  Bringing your card with you each time you visit the library facilitates use of library services, including accessing your account and using the self-check out machines and public computers.

ML KING, JR HOLIDAY CLOSURE

Your Chico branch library will be closed to celebrate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday,  January 16.

December Update

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

The Chico branch library will be closed on December 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday, and on December 31 and January 1 for the New Year holiday.  There will be no CFOL book sales on December 24 or 31.

There will be no CFOL meeting in December.  The usual “3rd Tuesday” meeting schedule resumes on January 17, 2017.  All CFOL members are welcome to attend these meetings.

YEARLY “BUY THE BOOK” CAMPAIGN RETURNS

The very popular “Buy the Book” event occurs each December.  At this time library patrons may select from a variety of brand-new books on display near the library entry to purchase as gifts to the library’s permanent collection.   Your gift may honor or be in remembrance of someone or just a thoughtful donation to benefit the library and its patrons.  A book plate will be placed in the book if you wish, commemorating the donor or honoree.  Postcards are also available to notify the individual.   Your generous gift is a lovely gesture of holiday spirit that benefits so many.

CFOL SPONSORS HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Your CFOL is pleased to present a free holiday performance by local band the Yule Logs, touted as the “hardest working band in show business!”  Come join in the holiday fun at this family-friendly program on Thursday, December 8 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in the Chico branch library.

HOLIDAY CRAFTS AND BAKE SALE

The Japanese Storytime Group proudly sponsors its third annual holiday crafts and bake sale on Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Chico branch library.   Proceeds from the sale benefit the library’s children’s department.  Your support of this ambitious group will be appreciated.

CHICO BRANCH REMODELING CONTINUES

On nearly each trip to the library visitors are surprised anew with changes and  rearrangements related to the ongoing remodeling project partially sponsored by your CFOL.  A schematic map of the proposed finished design is posted near the circulation desk.  Completion is anticipated by the end of December.

November Update

FIRST FRIDAY MEMBERS-ONLY BOOK SALE AND HOLIDAY SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY SALES

Join fellow CFOL members as you leisurely browse the many gently used books and other materials at the members-only book sale on Friday, November 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Chico branch meeting room. This is a fine opportunity to acquire bargains while avoiding the crowds who attend the regular Saturday morning sales.

Look for holiday bargains, with items priced at half-off. There are also special deals on children’s books.

Saturday sales will be on November 5 and 19 only due to holiday closures. All Butte County library branches will be closed on Friday, November 11 (Veteran’s Day) and Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25 (Thanksgiving). No CFOL book sales will be held on Saturday, November 12 or Saturday, November 26 so our dedicated book sale volunteers may enjoy a brief respite from their labors.

CHICO BRANCH REMODEL WELL UNDER WAY

Yellow caution ribbon marks temporary pathways through the library as this major remodel continues. Visit your Chico branch to view a schematic of the new configuration and new features to be installed, partially funded by your CFOL.

During the holidays and construction period, from now to December 1, please delay making large donations of used books for the book sales. Those donations will once again be very welcome next month.

LOOKING AHEAD

You can provide a gift of a new book for the Chico branch library at the annual Buy the Book event in December. Visit the branch to view the selections on display for you to choose from. Your library and its patrons will thank you.
